Congratulations to Kilgore College linebacker Julian Payne (Missouri City, TX) who earned the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 13-19.
Payne, a 6'1 sophomore, had a monster game defensively on Sept. 16 in Roswell, NM, against the No. 10 New Mexico Military Institute Broncos.
He racked up 13 tackles (10 solo), 1 tackle for loss, one sack and he also returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown.
Kilgore moved up to No. 3 this week in the NJCAA after the Rangers' 48-23 victory over No. 10 NMMI.
Payne is the second player this season to earn national POTW honors by the NJCAA with QB Cameron Peters earning the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors for week one.
